LinkedIn or XING – Which is the better business platform?

XING or LinkedIn which do you prefer? If you're in the B2B marketing business there's no getting around these two platforms. LinkedIn and XING serve on the one hand as a representation of the company and the search for suitable candidates for current job descriptions and on the other hand also for building up your own profile or network. However, two corporate networks also mean twice the work.

    Differences between the two platforms

    • International focus
      This may be the biggest difference between the two networks. LinkedIn's target audience focus is international. XING on the other hand, focuses exclusively on the target group in the DACH region.
    • Alignment of the offer
      Not only the number of users and the market differ between the two platforms but also the content and the orientation of the offer.

    LinkedIn: LinkedIn offers its users the possibility to share various ads such as videos, documents and webinars. Also, the knowledge level has a high priority level. Furthermore, current job offers or new employees can also be found via LinkedIn.

    XING: on the other hand, offers more of a career magazine that can be used to find industry information, open positions and suitable employees.

      • Possible uses: LinkedIn offers many features even without the use of money, such as sharing various news – organic posts.
      • Reach: Focusing on the national and international target group results in a larger reach -> attraction to international topics.

      XING:

      • Kununu: A major advantage of XING is the connection to Kununu.
      • German-speaking target audience: By restricting the target group, XING offers users more options in terms of digital exchange with people who are similarly situated.
      • Portfolio page: This offers users an additional great advantage of the platform as they can ideally present their talents, services, etc. here.
      Which of the two business networks is more suitable for what?

      The decision as to whether you should be active on XING or LinkedIn  depends on your content aims as well as the desired target group. LinkedIn offers more opportunities for internationally active companies, while XING focuses on German-speaking contacts in the DACH region.
